Miss Molly Marie and Mr. Glennie have been best friends from the day they met. Molly came from a responsible breeder at age 11 weeks. She has been protected and loved her entire life and she doesn't know there is any evil in the world.
Glennie knows about evil. He was born in a puppy mill. When he was much too young, he was packed up and shipped out, away from mom and probably in a cold truck with lots of other puppies. He most likely came here from several states away and landed in a pet store. There he sat for weeks on end. His puppy mates were sold and he waited. Finally one day the store owner decided he was too old to sell. He was no longer a "cute little puppy" but a 7 month old gangly "teenager". He says he gave him away but we don't know if that is true or if he is the one who abandoned him in an alley one day. Glennie was left in a plastic crate on a warm day with no water. (For some reason the store owner didn't remove all of the crate tags which is why we have some background.) Someone found Glennie and took him to a clinic which then sent him to Rescue. When Glennie arrived he was pretty much scared to death. He was terrified of men and willing to chew anything that he could get his teeth on. After a 3 week trip in the cab of a truck with a man, (Rolling Rescue-Mike Hankins) he was on the road to "recovery". When he arrived in our home for foster care, Molly became his role model and mentor. Glennie does much better with men now, he doesn't chew inappropriate objects and he is now the foster brother that other fosters look up to. But he doesn't bark much at all (probably was scolded for barking while in the store) and he is still afraid to be alone. We continue to work on his issues but he has come a long way from the little boy who first arrived here.
Miss Molly Marie is a fierce hunter, especially of mice. After the kill, she will proudly bring her 'gift' into the house to present it to me. The dining room floor seems to be her place of choice! Sometimes when we are out for a walk, she will stop to examine a ditch and come up with a mouse! The neighborhood must think there is a 'mouse plague'; they just don't know it is named 'Molly'! She tries to show Glennie how to hunt. He does just fine until it is time to go in for the kill. He doesn't seem to be able to take that last big step. Molly lets him try but then takes over when he doesn't finish it off. I am pleased to know that this skill hasn't been bred out of her since it is for this reason that the breed came into being.
