HOW TO TEACH YOUR WESTIE TO COME
or
POLITENESS COUNTS!

I discovered a long time ago just how stubborn and strong-minded a Westie can be. Anyone who owns a Westie will tell you just how hard it is to teach them to 'come'. But I think I have found the solution!!

Westies don't like to be ordered around. When they hear that command, 'COME', they say, 'I will decide when I should come, not you.' and they go on their way. And I don't blame them. I guess I have a little of that Westie personality. I am very resistant to doing things if someone 'orders' me to do it. I respond much better to a polite request. In fact, if it is a polite request, I'll probably fall all over myself doing whatever it is that you ask for. Why shouldn't a Westie be the same way?

So I set out to be polite to Miss Molly. I found that if I opened the door and bellowed, 'Come', she usually ignored me. But if I opened the door and sweetly called 'Molly, come please' she would come right in.

My conclusion: POLITENESS COUNTS!! Of course, I rewarded her behavior. Nice little treats, often her very favorite.....cheese!

HMMMMMMMMM..........

Could it possibly be..... No, I'm being silly..... but could it be that when I call 'Miss Molly, Come, please', she is hearing 'Miss Molly, Come, CHEESE'????????? Oh, no. Tell me it isn't so. It isn't politeness that counts!!! It is nothing more than low-down greed!!!

BUT IT WORKS!!!!!!
