This was quite an amazing weekend at the agility trials in Grand Rapids!

On Saturday, Glennie tried for his 3rd Novice Standard leg, again, but didn't get it. He started out faster than he has ever run; ran through 5-6 obstacles, flew out of the tunnel and up the aframe and came to a screeching halt at the top. Glennie had spotted the judge. I felt so bad for her. She was brand new; this was her first assignment. And Glennie sat atop the aframe and glared at her! When I finally got him down, he went through a tunnel and looked for her when he got out. I had a hard time getting him to the table and then getting him into a down; and then getting him out of the down. He was boring holes in the judge! Then we tried the weaves but it is hard to weave when your head is turned almost clear around backwards to watch the judge! We finally ran out of time. When I picked him up and we were leaving, the judge told me to "find me later". Oh-oh....

Molly ran standard open but knocked the triple. I don't remember a lot about her run but she didn't make it.

MOLLY

In Open jumpers, Molly ran but reached a point about half way where she stopped in front of a jump and stared at me and wouldn't move. She did this a Cobo, at Ann Arbor (where I assumed it was her sore foot and let her quit), at school last week and then here. I am not sure what she is doing......maybe, "Mom, I'm tired of doing all these darn jumps!!" She only does it in jumpers and not in standard. She was over on time and I think knocked a double too.

Glennie's turn...he dragged me down the aisle, he was in such a hurry to get to the gate! He was excited like I've never seen him at a trial. We began to run. This boy would have had a leg if I hadn't been in his way! I run the outside of the course a lot to get him moving because he is so slow. But because he decided to run, he was ahead of me!!! I don't know how to run with a dog who gets ahead of me...never had a chance to experience it before. He was forced to make some of his own decisions on what to do next LOL. He had some faults because of it...as we were leaving, he ran past the last triple and I called him back.....he backjumped the triple and cleared it easily then turned around and jumped it forward. He ran off the course and I had to call out a command to "sit" in order to get him to stop so I could put his collar on!! Amazing. No ribbons but this was better than a ribbon to me.

Sunday morning, I talked to that judge who just wanted to pet Glennie and let him know she wasn't evil. She felt so bad. She has Yorkies so likes terriers and felt like Glennie hated her. I told her that she isn't the only judge he has done that to!!

Molly ran standard open. It was an easy course, maybe for some dogs, but not for her. All of the hardest things were in a row. They had only six weave poles but then it was a right turn to a triple; then straight up an a frame. The weaves slow a dog down and Molly needs to be running full out to take a triple. And she has had aframe problems lately. To have done either after the weaves would have been amazing but to put both in after the weaves....no chance in the world. She gave up on the aframe and we had to skip it.

MOLLY

When we arrived that morning, someone immediately said to Glennie, "Well, are you going to entertain us as much today as you did yesterday?" In Standard novice he again ran so fast I couldn't believe it was Glennie. The interesting thing here is that while I was walking the course, Mary saw the judge (a different one) coming in and she stopped her. She asked the judge to pet Glennie because he is sometimes afraid of the judge and she did. Also, the aframe was over by the far wall and near the end of the run. I think the judge, realizing Glennie's issue, made a point of staying out of his view. And he was running so hard, I'm not sure he would have noticed her. He flew over the broad jump, up the aframe and down it so fast, he didn't even hesitate to look around. Right through the tunnel and out! He ran past one jump and had to come back so that was a refusal; he had trouble getting in to the weaves but did them and in novice that is acceptable. So he finished with a 95 and placed 3rd! This was his title leg!! (The first judge had a break and said she saw his run!)

GLENNIE AT ANN ARBOR

Then in open, Molly ran first and knocked the triple; then stopped in front of a jump again. I called CHEESE and she decided to finish! But she wasted too much time and the knocked bar is an automatic NQ.

Glennie came out and I didn't know what to expect but he was again revved up and roaring to go. I almost put him over the wrong jump but realized and called him off it and he responded! He had trouble getting into the weaves and that took too much time but the rest of his run was clean! He was over time by too much (times are much shorter and penalties much higher in Open). But this boy may just be able to do Open if he keeps this up. In fact, maybe he can do excellent eventually if he hires a new handler!

I'd almost believe that he understood that I was about to pull him from agility and he decided he had better try harder!!

We really had a great time and it was wonderful to have Mary there to hold them. I don't think I'd have been able to manage without her because the crating area was so far from the gates.

I'm going to have to spend some time sending in move up forms for the trials we have already entered and updating our web page!!! YEAH!
