Students In The News...

Connie performed Españoleta y Fanfare de la Caballería de Nápoles from Fantasia para un Gentilhombre by Joaquin Rodrigo at her band concert on May 1, 2005. She also performed the piccolo solo in the Stars and Stripes Forever and played trombone with the jazz band.

Congratulations to Connie for being accepted at Western Michigan University as a music major!!! Connie will be majoring in music educationa and would like to be a band director.

Connie performed in the pit orchestra for her high school's production of Annie and performed From Within for solo alto flute by Jonathan Bayley at her school's Coffee House concert in April, 2005. She also performed Sarabande by J. S. Bach last fall.

I was a judge in April, 2005 for the Patricia Nixon Scholarship Competition at Central Michigan University and heard some fabulous performers compete! It was a very difficult decision to select the winner since everyone played so well. I also was a judge in March for the Michigan Association of Christian Schools Fine Arts Festival, judging the solo woodwind and small chamber ensemble categories.

Congratulations to all my students who went to District and State Solo & Ensemble Festivals this year. You each did an excellent job and can be very proud of all your hard work! Connie performed the first movement of the Concerto in G Major by Mozart and The Boa Constrictor and the Bobolink for piccolo and tuba. Jennifer performed the first and second movements of the Sonata II in G Major by Platti and Trio II for three flutes by Hook. Amy performed the Telemann Sonata in F Major and Stephanie performed Intermezzo by Duvernoy.

Jennifer and Amy have performed regularly at their church this past year, performing on flutes, piano, and singing.

Piccolo Mania!
I will be teaching a "workshop" for junior high and high school piccoloists this summer.
Piccolo Mania will take place between June 23 and July 28, 2004. There will be an opening 45-minute class on June 23, followed by 4 weeks of private lessons, and ending with another 45-minute class. Studies will cover basic concepts of sound production, tone, intonation, alternate fingerings, general facts about the piccolo and how it differs from the flute, along with some of the major piccolo parts for band.  It is open to beginning through advanced players and costs $80.00 per student. All students must provide their piccolos & music stands.

Congratulations to Connie, Jamie, and their friends for receiving I's at the 2004 District and State Solo & Ensemble Festivals for their flute quartet. They performed Paul Bunyan and His Blue Ox, Babe from Legends From the Greenwood by Catherine McMichael. Also, congratulations to Connie for receiving I's on her flute and piccolo solos at District. Congratulations to all of my students who performed at Solo & Ensemble Festivals this year for all of their hard work.
